I believe in providing excellent communication to parents and students in my class. You will find my classroom web site filled with information for parents and children. I will update our site frequently, so check back to get up-to-date information.
Homework is assigned on a daily basis and should take about 30-40 minutes each night to complete. Students should also be reading for approximately 15 minutes each evening to reach their Accelerated Reader goals. You will find assignments written in the student's assignment notebook or on this web page under weekly assignments. Homework should be handed in as it is completed. Students who do not have their homework handed in at class time will receive an assignment ticket.
Items to save for our classroom: Ready made frosting containers.
When students are absent, they are responsible for making up the work. Upon return students will have their assignments on their desk. Students have the same number of days they were gone to make up their work. For example, if Sally misses two days of school, she will have two days to make up her work. If a child will be absent for an extended vacation, please let me know as soon as possible so make up work can be completed ahead of time.
Accelerated Reader Goals and Awards
Students will receive an Accelerated Reader (AR) goal each month. This goal is based on the student's individual reading ability. Each student who meets his or her goal will receive an incentive from Mrs. Wagner. Generally 10 points by midquarter and 20 points by quarter end. This includes all the books read in class. Students should also be reading every evening for no less than 15 minutes.
In math this year, Mrs. Wagner's third graders will be going to Mrs. Cordingley's room for math class. Students will have a daily assignment. Students also have IXL objectives to work on. IXL is an online math program that is used at Koch School. Objectives will be assigned to align with the lessons completed in class. A parent's initial ensures that your child has completed said standard with 85% or better. When an IXL sheet is complete, your child may return for a prize.

A grade of "U" means Unsatisfactory
Classroom assignments are generally due the next school day after which they are assigned. Class time is always given to complete assignments. Students may need to finish an assignment at home if it is not completed during the given class work time. If assignments are not completed by class time, a blue assignment ticket will be issued that will require a parent/guardian signature. The ticket along with the completed assignment must be turned in the following day to receive credit in the grade book. If an assignment ticket is not returned, a phone call home will be made by Mrs. Wagner. 10% will be deducted for each day an assignment ticket is not returned. Loss of recess will occur until the signed assignment ticket is returned to school.

I have developed a classroom discipline plan which guides every student to make good decisions about his or her behavior. Your child deserves the most positive educational climate possible for his/her growth. Together we will make a difference in this process. Our discipline plan outlines the rules, positive recognition for appropriate behavior, and consequences for inappropriate behavior.
Rules: 1. Follow directions. 2. Raise your hand and get permission before speaking. 3. No swearing, sass or bullying. 4. Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself. 5. Have materials ready on time.
Positive Recognition: To encourage students to follow these classroom rules, I will recognize appropriate behavior with praise, notes, and positive phone calls home. We are also using a tool called "Bucket Filling." When students fill someone's bucket or their own, (positive behavior), they will get a fuzzy pom-pom in their bucket. When their bucket is full they will get a sticker on their bucket. They will begin to fill their bucket again. It encourages "no dipping"- which means saying or doing inapppropriate actions to others. We teach kids to use their "lid" and not allow others to dip in their bucket. It teaches students strategies for handling difficult situations.
Consequences: The first time a student breaks a rule they will receive a verbal warning and their name will go on the board. The second time they will receive a behavior ticket which will be signed by a parent. The third time a phone call will be made home. For a fourth offense or severe disruption, the student will be sent to the principal's office.
Students may bring a healthy snack to eat in the morning. Good items to send for a snack would be fruit, vegetables, applesauce, crackers, cheese or pudding. Please do not send candy. We have a classroom fridge to keep things cold.
Students will be writing assignments in their notebooks on a daily basis. The assignment notebook will also have upcoming events and classroom activities. To ensure communication between home and school, students will bring their notebook home on a daily basis. Please glance over the assignment notebook, ask questions about what your child has done during the day, and sign your name. If you have something you want me to know, just write it in the notebook as I see their books daily as well.
